Hear from the team

Briefly introduce yourself. I’m Tam, Bookmark’s Chief Operating Officer. I’m often told I have the temperament of a cat and usually have chocolate on or around my person – just ask.
What is it like to work at Bookmark? The culture at Bookmark is unrelentingly positive – and it’s a good thing too; Because we’re ‘starting something’, the work is challenging, sometimes surprising and a breeding ground for constant learning and improvement. We’ve developed a wonderful combination of professionalism, high standards, encouragement and honesty. Everyone who works at Bookmark both teaches others what they know and develops as a beginner outside of their speciality.
What is your favourite thing about your role? I have the pleasure of seeing the organisation grow from the inside out: the development of our talented team, the rich experiences of our amazing volunteers, the expanding reach to schools that trust and value our services, and of course, the positive impact on the children we’ve all come together to support.
What does a day typically look like for you, in your role? We all see a lot of variety in our roles. For me, it’s keeping abreast of the mass of action driving our work forwards and bringing minds together to find ways to be more efficient and make our touchpoints with volunteers, schools and children as positive and effective as they can be.
Who should apply to work at Bookmark? If you care about literacy, have skills that will help us to succeed and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves to make it happen, then you should apply to come and work with us.
