Discover Ukrainian and English literary resources

Having worked extensively on the Bookmark Box for Ukraine Project, we have seen first-hand that the provision of Ukrainian-English literacy resources can massively increase a child’s enthusiasm for reading across both languages. Because of this, we found extra resources which we believe are stimulating and will maintain Ukrainian children’s enthusiasm for reading over the summer holidays.

Combine these resources with our top tips to prevent bi-lingual literacy loss before September.

Books & eBooks:

Included in this section are shortcuts to 20 websites with a range of resources. Links include websites where Ukrainian or bilingual stories can be bought. Because paying for resources isn’t always possible, we have included plenty of free, downloadable content which can then be printed onto paper, or simply viewed online.

Book Packs:

Our friends at the National Literacy Trust have also funded a series of free Ukrainian book packs which can be requested. These, like our own boxes are great tools to maintain and improve literacy skills and aid the wider integration of Ukrainian children.

Video Content:

Here can be found links to YouTube playlists of Ukrainian authors reading their stories alongside a series of short stories. These are just two of a wider range of Ukrainian short stories on YouTube, centred around improving reading skills.

Audio Books:

Similar to the video content section, we’ve found a few links to websites which themselves have plenty of resources to listen to. These are great to maintain a children’s ability to speak their native language whilst being in the UK.

Magazines & Comic Books:

There are links to view two free to use resources here. One magazine and a comic could prove to be alternative, perhaps more easily accessible resources for children.

By no means is this an extensive list of Ukrainian or bilingual resources. However, we believe we’ve found a good variety and number of sources to keep children interested over the summer and that this list can provide a platform from which children can continue to improve their literacy skills!
