91% of primary schools in Plymouth receive Your Story Corner packs worth £2,000

On Friday 13th January we visited The Cathedral School of St Mary in Plymouth to delivery their Your Story Corner pack. Every primary school in Plymouth was offered a free pack and 91% of schools applied. 35% of children in the area live in poverty. Bookmark provided £164k worth of books and resources to 82 primary schools in Plymouth.

The pack is worth over £2,000 and includes 200 new, high quality books suitable for children aged 4-9. The schools will also get a School Library Association membership, providing access to Reading for Pleasure training, CPD and more. As well as an annual subscription to The Story Corner magazine and posters, postcards, worksheets and a certificate to display in classrooms and encourage reading for pleasure.

It was a fantastic day, made even better by the appearance of local MP Luke Pollard who unpacked the books with the children and orchestrated a story time for them. This visit wouldn’t have been possible with the support of Plymouth Children in Poverty and Kerry Bidewell who were instrumental in organising the day.

Bea Stafford-Smith, Bookmark’s School Business Development Manager, was there on the day and experienced the children’s delight for herself, she said:

We absolutely loved chatting to the staff about their school and how much of an impact these books and resources will have for hundreds of children.
