Introducing Roots to Reading: a fresh chapter for our literacy programme
We’re excited to share some news from Bookmark! Our much-loved Your Story Corner programme has a new name: Roots to Reading.
Why the change?
The programme itself hasn’t changed – its purpose, content and impact remain exactly the same, but we feel that Roots to Reading better reflects the steps we take to achieve our vision – to ensure every child can read.
Just like roots nourish a tree, our programme lays the foundation for children to grow into confident, enthusiastic readers. Through Roots to Reading, we provide schools with the resources they need to make reading for pleasure a reality.
What does Roots to Reading offer?
Eligible schools receive up to £2,000 worth of diverse, high-quality books and literacy resources. These materials help schools create inviting reading spaces and inspire children to discover the joy of books – an experience that can last a lifetime.
Our mission
We focus on partnering with schools in England that face the greatest challenges, ensuring that children who need our support the most have access to books and opportunities to thrive.
So far, we’ve supported 12 schools across England, from Plymouth to Sheffield. And this year alone, we’ve expanded to Hull, Rochdale, and Derbyshire – donating 26,400 books to 132 schools.
