Our impact

Discover the impact Bookmark Reading Charity has for children across the country

In 2022/23, Bookmark reached 2,267 children and delivered 40,100 one-to-one, volunteer-led reading sessions. We have worked hard to scale our reach and deepen our impact to support more children. Read more about what our community of schools, volunteers, supporters and partners helped us achieve in our latest Impact Report.

This graphic illustrates the headline findings of our 2022/2023 Impact Report.

The report explores our impact on our three core aims.

  1. Improving children’s enjoyment of reading

  2. Improving children’s confidence

  3. Improving children’s reading attainment.

We have also identified a number of further benefits that our programme has on children, including improving their motivation to read and their self-esteem.

Full details of our research methodology can be found inside the report.

I would say this is the BEST reading programme we have ever participated in. It allows the valuable 1:1 time to read, which staff in schools struggle to find in school. The volunteers are amazing, and the children truly love their sessions.

Our volunteer-led reading programme was reviewed by the National Literacy Trust.
