Your Story Corner Programme: Hull
Why are we there?
- Hull is ranked the third most deprived local authority in England, more than a third of children live in income-deprived households, including many where parents/carers are working. Over one quarter of children in Hull live in poverty (HCC).
- 2022 Key Stage 2 SAT results showed that 59% achieved expected standards, down from 65% in 2019.
We were delighted to offer schools in these areas the resources to develop a whole-school reading culture and embed reading for pleasure into the lives of their pupils.
What did we do?
We awarded funding to 23 schools in Hull to reinvigorate their libraries and reading spaces.
What did we deliver?
-
4,600
books in total were donated in the packs
-
£46,000
worth of books were donated
-

What was the impact?
The project successfully expanded the range, quality, and diversity of books available to children in supported schools. Early results also show that the programme inspired many schools to improve their reading spaces and libraries.
Thank you so much for today. This was such a brilliant experience for all of the children. The workshops were fantastic, and they really engaged the children.
The books are also wonderful. It is such a superb collection of high-quality and diverse books that will be loved by many children.
We really appreciate you providing this experience for our children.
