Help a Child Who is Struggling to Read in Derbyshire
Bookmark is coming to Derbyshire and we need your help to support children who are falling behind.
Calling all Derbyshire locals!
We’re looking for volunteers to spend one hour a week reading stories and play games with a child aged between 5 and 11 who struggle with their reading.
In Derbyshire, many children in school years 3 to 6 are below the expected reading level. But you can help change that.
As a volunteer, you can greatly impact a child’s learning journey. All it takes is two 30-minute sessions each week at times that suit you. You don’t need any specific experience – just a laptop or an iPad. We’ll provide all of the training and resources you need.
Why become a reading volunteer?
Volunteering is focused on one-to-one reading programmes to maximise the number of children we can support with improving their literacy. Whether online or face-to-face, volunteers directly support children in disadvantaged communities who are at risk of leaving primary school unable to read well.
-
It’s only 30 minutes twice a week for six weeks
-
Sessions can be done either online or face-to-face at one of our partner schools
-
It’s so flexible! You can volunteer at a time that suits you
-
You can help a child gain the reading skills and confidence they need to succeed
