The Bookmark Book Rocket Pack 2: We have lift off!

The second Bookmark Book Rocket Pack is underway! The aim of the pack is to support our mission to help every child to read, and to help to build whole school reading cultures in primary schools.

In the Autumn term, we asked Tom Griffiths, Assistant Headteacher at Tidbury Green School in Solihull, to curate the first Book Rocket Pack around a titles the children at his school had enjoyed. These were distributed to our Silver, Gold and Platinum Partner Schools.

We’re doing the same this Spring term but with a brand new pack curated by Mark Bradley, author of Bumble & Snug! We’ll be running a giveaway each term – this is for primary schools across the United Kingdom to be in with a chance of winning the new pack of books.

These packs will ensure that children participating in Bookmark reading programmes and across the school will have access to high-quality, diverse reading material.

We offer many additional benefits to our partner schools over and above our reading programmes; find out more about our Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum packages here.

THE second PACK

We’re delighted to have the second Bookmark Book Rocket Pack be curated by Mark Bradley. Mark is a comic writer and artist, who lives in Yorkshire with his family.

This pack will be available to win in a Twitter competition in April - packs will then be distributed to the winner and our Silver, Gold and Platinum Partner Schools in April.

Mark Bradley, comic writer and artist whp curated the second Bookmark Book Rocket Pack

“I’m Mark Bradley, and I’m the creator of the Bumble & Snug series of graphic novels. I am so excited to be curating this pack of fantastic graphic novels for Bookmark!

I passionately believe about the possibilities of comics in the classroom – research and studies have indicated that they increase reader engagement, from enthusiastic readers to reluctant prose readers, that they help with information retention, increase visual literacy, and do many, many other wonderful things. Most importantly: They are simply an amazing medium, full of possibilities, and are capable of expressing things in a way no other medium can.

I hope that you enjoy this pack – I’ve included a range of titles suitable for readers from KS1 to KS2. This pack shows a tiny fraction of graphic novels out there, and what they are capable of. There will be children (and grown ups!) who find their natural home in comics, and they’ll foster a love of reading which will stick with them for life.

I hope that you and your children enjoy them! ”
